The Future of Development Film in Africa Conference

The Future of Development Film in Africa Conference provides a professional platform for small and medium-sized film production businesses to expand their network of contacts, especially with international development agencies, local and international broadcasters and film distributers, as well as investors from the private sector. 

Communicating for Change (CFC), a non-profit media company focusing on development communications  is hosting the conference in partnership with the UK-based Television Trust for the Environment (TVE), and the Lagos Business School’s Pan-African University.  The conference is being supported with a grant from the Ford Foundation.

Conference Theme: The Future of Development Film in Africa

Conference Venue:   Pan African University Campus, Lekki Expressway, Lagos

Objectives

  • To create a platform for Nollywood to make an impact on Africa’s development; to create a bridge between the film industry and diverse investors including the private sector, international broadcasters and film distributers, international development agencies, film marketers and production companies, and management trainers
  • Increase the understanding of intellectual property rights and piracy as it relates to the African film industry
  • Present case studies of innovative African film projects highlighting different business models
  • Increase understanding of media management and the entertainment industry
  • Provide a platform for dialogue and idea exchange between independent producers and international funders
  • Provide training opportunities for conference delegates as case studies from around Africa are presented and discussed
  • Provide a platform for conference delegates from around Africa to network, be trained and informed, and strengthened in their work and vision
  • Provide an opportunity to showcase the work and experience of conference partners & delegates

Conference Speakers & Participants

Speakers from the World Intellectual Properties Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva, Dean of Communications from the University of Navarre in Spain, award winning filmmaker from Intermedia in Italy and development film experts and international distributers from the Television Trust for the Environment. Broadcasters, independent film/video producers and development film producers and communications specialists as well as regulatory agencies for the electronic media from Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, the Gambia, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, and Tanzania.
