Chief (Mrs.) Hilda Ogunbanjo Film Award on Citizenship

The Ogunbanjo family have chosen to honor the memory of their dear mother, Chief (Mrs.) Hilda Adunola Ogunbanjo, the Yeye Gbobaniyi of Ijebuland, with the establishment of an endowed film award (to be presented biennially) that will ensure that her sterling contributions to the development of journalism and citizenship studies in Nigeria will continue to inspire young Nigerians for generations to come.

The goal of the award is the production of a short documentary film for distribution to television stations and local and international film outlets. The fellowship will require fellows to produce a documentary in the area of citizenship, and recipients will receive a grant to complete their film.

The award will contribute to people's appreciation of three main ideas:

  • Social and moral responsibility
  • Community involvement
  • Political literacy
  • Conflict Resolution

The Awardee will:

  • Receive a grant to complete their film
  • Undergo on-the-job training including research, interviewing techniques, writing, sound and video recording, editing, directing, producing and ethics in documentary film production
  • Film and post-produce with the assistance of a professional film crew and under the supervision of CFC’s producers and directors
  • provide the completed film for screening in August 2006.
