About Communicating for Change
Video Production
CFC has a strong video production unit that
creatively showcases development stories using cutting-edge
technology. CFC’s experienced production team has produced
news reports, documentaries and films in Africa, North America
& Europe. CFC’s documentary Till
Death Do Us Part, on the plight of widows in eastern
Nigeria, was shown at the 50th anniversary celebrations
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris, and
was awarded the silver certificate of the Prix Leonardo in
Parma, Italy, in 1999.
Another short film, Against
the Odds, which profiles two dynamic women leaders
and their struggle to make democracy and good governance a
reality in Nigeria, received rave reviews in Nigeria. This
film is part of a series on gender issues called From Rhetoric
to Reality. Against the Odds was funded by UNESCO and the
Television Trust for the Environment and was broadcast by
numerous international broadcasters including BBC World Television.
CFC's most recent film, UNCUT-Playing
with Life presents the problem of female genital mutilation
through the eyes of both Stella, a proud circumciser from
the royal family of Benin, and theatre for development activists
who studied her life and profession as research material for
a play against FGM. The film contextualises the problem by
providing a traditional setting and point of view. Throughout
the film advocates and activists express their personal views,
highlighted by heart wrenching, dramatic theatre sequences
showcasing the societal pressures responsible for the practice
of female circumcision. Interviews include points of view
of circumcisers, the High Priest of Benin, law makers, civil
society activists, medical experts, as well as the youth.
