Special Film Events
World AIDS Day 2000
CFC marked the 13th World AIDS
day with a special event held in Ajegunle, one of the low-income
areas within the Lagos Metropolis. The special film show was
organised in partnership with the Ajegunle Community Partners
for Health (ACPH) youth group. The films shown during the
event focused on various aspects of the AIDS epidemic, from
information about the nature of the disease to access to care,
stigmatisation of people living with AIDS, to myths and misinformation.
After the film show, AIDS experts from the
Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), and the Society
for Family Health provided information during an interactive
session that was very well received by the youth. At the
end, all participants were given special brochures designed
by CFC with information about HIV-AIDS. CFC also produced
banners and posters to showcase the event.
The success of the World AIDS Day film show
was due to the entertaining, cutting edge audiovisual materials
provided by CFC, as well as to the excellent presentations
and interactive session with the AIDS partner organisations.
Research results compiled from questionnaires clearly showed
that message impact was high and that the audience decided
to make lifestyle changes based on the entire event.
